MBARARA POLICE FINALLY ARREST VEHICLE NUMBER PLATE THIEVES
BY OKOODI DEO
IN MBARARA—–
Eight people who are reportedly to be among the gang that is removing
motor vehicle number plates in the south western region have been
arrested by Mbarara police.
The district police commander Jaffar Magyezi said the suspects who
have made fortune out of the activity would leave their Telephone
contacts after removing a number plate in order for the owner of the
vehicle to call and send them money so as to access his or her number
plate.
Magyezi faulted air tel workers whom he said have been issuing
unregistered telephone lines to thieves which they use to extort money
from the car owners adding that the trend is proving so difficult for
police to track and have them arrested.
During the operation 5 number plates were recovered from different
places within Mbarara Municipality and given back to the owners.
Police identified some of the suspects as Musinguzi Didas, Besiga
Norman, Rwakoma Richards.
