Mbarara Referral Hospital administration has honoured it’s promise of renaming Pediatric Surgical Unit Dr Martin Situma Pediatric Surgical Unit.
Dr Martin Situma was a celebrated pediatric surgeon at Mbarara referral hospital who passed on July this year at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
The late Situma is reported to have succumbed to multiple myeloma at the age of 46.
After his demise the ministry of health & Mbarara Referral Hospital in particular was thrown into panic as he was a senior doctor who has been at the helm of operating children with pediatric malformations.
While speaking at his final send off that took place in Entebbe, the Mbarara Referral Hospital Director Dr Celestine Barigye pledged to keep his dream alive.
This has come to pass as his unit where he used to operate children has been renamed after him.
In an interview with Dr Barigye, he said that the purpose is not only to acknowledge great contribution of the late Situma but also to inspire his successors.
Halson Kagure the Mbarara Referral Hospital Public Relations Officer said that Dr Situma had mentored other surgeons whom they believe will take on a mantle of a man who actually pioneered Pediatric Surgical Unit at Mbarara referral hospital.
