Mbarara district environment officer David Nuwagaba Sancho has warned residents who are still encroaching on wetlands and water bodies to vacate them as early as possible.
Nuwagaba issued a warning during a sensitisation meeting in Nyanja parish Bukiro town council in Kashari south Mbarara district on how they can differentiate between mainlands and wetlands.
He says that the rules and directives originate from the National environmental act and land act where it is clearly stated that it’s the duty of the government to ensure wetlands are not owned by any person or individual
Meanwhile residents of Nyanja parish chaired by Ignatius Katamanya asked the district authorities to come in and help in de-silting their Etagyera -Nyanja water dam that is in a sorry state.
