MBARARA RESIDENTS WORRIED OVER POOR STATE OF KATEETE BRIDGE, FAULTY TRAFFIC LIGHTS ON BUREMBA ROAD

Stakeholders, especially the business community around Mbarara city have accused Mbarara city leadership of shoddy work and incompetence.
The concerned residents cited out the poor State of Katete Bridge and faulty traffic lights along Buremba road.
Boda Boda riders at Katete Bridge stage and other road users expressed calls upon the city authorities to intervene and renovate the bridge before lives are lost.
According to the city Town Clerk Mr.Tibihika Theophilus ,the weak bridge railings and Barriers were a month ago knocked by a reckless driver who was not arrested but the council is aware and are waiting for money to work on the bridge.
“There is money on the government account but we have to follow procedures we are waiting for this quarter allocation, “Tibihika told mknewslink.com.
Kagiiko Imam Shafi, the LCIV councilor representing Katete ward in Nyamitanga also accuses the authorities of concealing the Bill of Quantities (BOQ’s) and other information about government projects.
He suspects that this could be their tactic to embezzle government funds.

Katete bridge cost about shs 450 million and was commissioned in 2018/19 despite the outcry from some leaders and activists over the cited shoddy work.
Meanwhile , the city Mayor Kakyebezi Robert said besides plans to repair the faulty traffic lights at Global High School along Bulemba road ,the city engineer and other responsible departments are also considering Kateete bridge as an emergency.
The faulty traffic lights were erected under the World Bank Supported Project Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) phase 2018/2019/2020/2021.
