MBARARA: TWO INMATES DIE FROM CELLS AT KYAMUGORANI GOV’T PRISON

Two male Prisoners have reportedly died from Kyamugorani Government Prison in Kakiika Mbarara City North Division.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com , Robert Kanusu the Deputy Resident City Commissioner Mbarara city North Division identified the deceased as Francis Beinobwire who died on the 23rd, June, 2022 and Francis Musiime who died on the 16th.June, 2022 all residents of Rubindi-Ruhumba Town council.
Kanusu however said that both postmortem reports from Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital indicate that the two Prisoners died of HIV/AIDS.
The president’s representative added that his office received complaints from the relatives of the deceased Prisoners questioning the manner the duo died.
Kakiika Government Prisons popularly Known as Kyamugorani was constructed way back in 1990’s by the then monarchy Government and it used to accommodate only 60 inmates but reports have it that the facility accommodates over 1000 inmates given its huge space of about 100 acres of land.
Kanusu is now appealing to the government to decongest the facility through ensuring regular checkups of the inmates and constructing another facility.
Speaking to this online website the OC station Kakiika Government prison Nyazi Ahimbisibwe confirmed the matter noting that the two inmates had tested positive to HIV and they were receiving ARVs from the health facility at the prison.
