MBARARA UNIVERSITY ON FIRE: STAFF BEGIN STRIKE TODAY 2ND MAY , 2019

Mbarara University of Science and Technology teaching and non teaching staff have today 2nd May 2019 resolved to put down their tools and start a strike.
The issue of the strike was put on vote and the majority of members voted in favor of it whereas only four members were against the strike.
This came up after the general assembly that was held at the University chaired by Dr. John Emenyu the Academic Staff Association chairman and his secretary Julius Taremwa.
They however reserved that MUST staff who work at Mbarara Referral Hospital continue working in order to save people’s lives.
They also resolved that the University Secretary Melchior Byaruhanga M should step aside to allow the forensic audit do its work at the University.
The General Secretary Julius Taremwa told the meeting that the University Secretary and vice chancellor Prof.Celestine Obua opened the illegal bank accounts which were not known to the university council and staff in order to steal money.
The staff also resolved that Prof.Celestine Obua retires and should not seek for another term because of the problems he has brought at the University.
The staff resolved that the search committee starts working immediately to choose a new vice chancellor.
According to Taremwa, students are remaining with one and half weeks to begin their end of semester/year exams therefore they are to suffer.
