MBARARA UNIVERSITY STAFF SUSPEND STRIKE ON 9TH DAY
In Mbarara—
Mbarara university teaching and non teaching staff have today in a meeting called off their strike which had last 9 days.
The staff decided to call off the strike after the parliamentary education committee yesterday met with the top management and a section of university staff in an effort to iron out the impasse that has engulfed the government institution in the recent past.
According to Dr. John Emenyu, the Academic Staff Association chairman, they have agreed to suspend the strike for only four weeks and in case the university fails to adhere to their demands they will be forced to re start.
The university staff laid down their tools on 2nd may 2019 demanding that the Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestine Obua be retired in public interest and the University Secretary Melchior Byaruhanga steps aside as investigations into the mismanagement of university funds go on.
