MBARARA:TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR STEALING VEHICLE NUMBER PLATES

Police in Mbarara district are holding two suspects who have been terrorizing area residents stealing vehicle number plates and subjecting extortion with promises of returning the stolen plates only after full payment of the ‘ransom’.
The suspects have been identified as Josephat Asiimwe 30 a businessman and a resident of Bwambala in Rukungiri district and Javira Nankunda 34 and a resident of Buremba in Kazo district.
They were arrested on Tuesday night in Rukungiri during an operation conducted by security operatives.
The suspects on the night of 27th, November,2024 stole number plates from motor vehicles that were parked at different trading centers in Mbarara district and left a phone number to call for ransom.
According to SP samson kasasira the Rwizi Region police spokesperson,the suspects who were arrested from their hide out in Rukungiri town were found with 07 different motor vehicle number plates which are currently exhibited at Bwizibwera police station.
According to kasasira, the suspects who are currently being detained will be arraigned before court to be charged accordingly as the hunt for more suspects is ongoing.
