By Aggrey Twesigye
In Mbarara—
Medical laboratory technicians have entered a second since they declared their strike countrywide.
Nearly 10,000 medical laboratory Technicians announced that they had started a strike on Tuesday protesting low pay and failure by government to absorb degree, masters and PhD holders into public service, among other reasons.
The technicians are central in the diagnosis of diseases for a patient to get effective treatment, and also lead in surveillance of emerging diseases, including Covid-19, in the country.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com the Uganda medical laboratory technicians’ association representative, south western region, Gard Mbeera said, the department of lab technicians has been neglected for long and it is time for them to fight for their rights.
He now asked the government to look into their issues before the situation gets out of hand.
