By Sandra Tumwekwase
In Bushenyi
There is a need for the government to consider granting men a Paternity leave whenever their wives are in labour.
This was noted by Jackson Chekweko the executive director Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU)at the official launching of Bushenyi district, local action plan to address gender based violence which took place today at the municipal multi purpose hall.
He noted that child bearing is a role for both parents thus men like women should also be given paternity leave so that they can also feel the impact of bringing up a child.
Chekweko revealed that it’s their wish as Reproductive Health Uganda to make Bushenyi and Uganda as a whole a gender based violence free environment by 2030.
He said that they intend to achieve this through gender transformative approach whereby they teach the public to look at things differently compared to tradition.
He said that they teach men and women to look at things like roles in homes, education, among others in the same way, mostly involving men.
