Hundreds of people, students and local leaders yesterday thronged Rwenkoobwa Muslim primary school in Rwenkoobwa town council, Ibanda district celebrate the international women’s day.
Speaking as the guest of honour, the State Minister for Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Kiwanda, warned husbands against beating their wives, but urged them to love their wives.
“Men ought to love their wives. A man who loves his wife loves himself and should not beat her. There should be pleas for forgiveness”. Mr. Kiwanda said.
He called for love, unity and harmony in development of their families. He advised women to embrace some projects by practicing the modern agriculture and livestock aiming at supporting their families for income generating purposes.
Ms. Justine Balabala; the Ibanda District women league, while addressing the congregation, suggested that the government should change the laws, pointing out that some fathers who defile their own daughters should be subjected to castration.
She noted that defilement suspects who are convicted and sent to prisons continue to enjoy government facilities at the expense of tax payers.
She appealed to the government to look into this matter with great concern. “Let our daughters not suffer lest their future life is endangered because of their fathers” She adds.
