MENTALLY ILL WOMAN DUMPS BABY INTO PIT LATRINE IN MASINDI

Police yesterday afternoon retrieved a newly born baby from a pit latrine in Kirasa1 cell, Masindi central division, Masindi district.

The baby girl who was hours old, had reportedly been dumped in the latrine by its mother only identified as Kaahwa a maid at New life Pub located in the area.

A man who preferred anonymity told www.mknewslink.com that he had gone to ease himself when he heard a baby crying in the latrine which prompted him to inform other people about it.

According to the proprietor of New life Pub who identified herself as Mama Muto, Kaahwa developed a mental problem which forced her to discontinue her from working at the pub.

Maama Muto added that she was not at the pub when the baby was found in the latrine but she was just informed by the residents who suspected Kaahwa who has been pregnant to have dumped the baby in the latrine.

She added that when she arrived, she found Kaahwa kneeling and when she asked where the baby was, she told her that she had dropped it in the latrine.

The chairperson Kirasa I cell Hamza Kabaka narrated how she told him that she had gone to the toilet to ease herself and in the process the baby fell in the latrine.

Kabaka added that he informed Masindi police who rushed and retrieved the baby from the latrine still alive and later took it together with Kaahwa to Masindi main hospital for treatment.

When asked about the baby’s father, Kabaka revealed Kaahwa had identified a certain man he could not name as its father.

Kabaka added that when he approached the man, he admitted to having been Kaahwa’s lover but denied being responsible for her pregnancy.
