MINISTER BAHATI’S CONSTITUENCY ENDORSES AGE LIMIT REMOVAL
BY VANANSIO KAKOGOSO
IN KABALE—
Leaders in Ndorwa west Kabale district have endorsed the removal of age
limit from Uganda’s constitution.
The leaders endorsed the proposal yesterday during the consultative meeting
that was organized by State Minister of Finance for Planning who is also
the area Member of Parliament Hon David Bahati at Kirigime guest house in
Kabale Municipality.
The meeting was attended by all district and sub county councilors, sub
county chairpersons, Resident district commissioners, operation wealth
creation officials, national resistance movement leaders from at sub county
levels among others.
It all started when the Deputy resident district commissioner Kabale Denis
Nzeirwe demanded that Article 102 (b) of the constitution be amended to
lift the 75-year age limit to allow President Yoweri Museveni stand in 2021
since he is still energetic.
He said that those people against the amendment are from opposition
political parties, who have failed to oust Museveni from power.
Nzeirwe was backed by Christmas Turyomurugyendo the Kitumba sub county
youth chairperson. He said that the law infringes on people’s rights with
capacity to lead the country. He also said that parliament should reinstate
term limits and scrap off age limit.
The Katuna town council councilor representing elderly Eric Mbarara also
supported the proposal saying that its gives chance to brilliant old men to
serve their country.
The kitumba sub county deputy speaker Aman Aribabariho said that age limit
should scrapped off since to allow equal participation in politics.
