In Kanungu—
The debate about age limit removal from the constitution has led to disagreement between local leaders in Kanungu district.
The development follows a resolution reached at by a section of some leaders who agreed to have article 102 (b) amended to enable president Museveni contest for presidential race 2021
The leaders were in a consultative meeting organized by Kinkizi east MP Chris Baryomunsi in conjunction with district woman MP Elizabeth Karungi.
After the resolution Hon Baryomunsi together with the people moved in a procession to drum up more support over the issue from residents in Kanungu town council where other local leaders disassociated themselves from resolution urging that they should have also been involved in the consultation and express their views.
But the woman MP Elizabeth Karungi said as people’s representative in parliament they will go with what majority of the local leaders have resolved though others seem to have different views.
On his part Hon Baryomunsi who is also the state minister of lands and urban development warned them of disciplinary action if they continue defying party position over the matter.
He said although they rise up and decampaign the bill, they won’t influence anything because the authority to vote over the matter is invested in parliament but hastened to add that the party will try and engage them so as to bring them back on board.
