MINISTER KAHINDA, MP KAGINDA CLASH OVER PRESIDENT MUSEVENI’S RETIREMENT
The consecration and enthronement of Rev. canon Benon magezi as the
fifth bishop of north kigezi diocese turned into a political battle
ground when the minister of constitutional affairs Rtd. Major
General Saverino Kahinda otafire and Roland Kaginda mugume exchanged
bitter words over the retirement of President Yoweri kaguta Museveni.
It all begun when Kaginda the Rukungiri municipality MP who is also the
opposition deputy chief whip in parliament said that President Yoweri
kaguta Museveni needs to emulate the church that has peaceful handover
of leadership to other leaders of the this country Uganda.
“ am happy as the member of this area to have witnessed the peaceful
hand over of bishop Tusingwire to bishop Benon tugume as I
was siting behind the generals I saw them whispering I don’t know what
they were saying but I ask them to tell there boss president
Museveni also to retire like bishop Tusingwire “ MP Kaginda said
Kaginda.
This statement didn’t go down well with Kahinda otafire who had
represented president Museveni at the function as he retaliated by
saying that the bishops have retired because the constitution of the
church commands them to do so but as for the NRM government they have
always found the constitution still wanting that’s why they have not
done so saying that the opposition needs to be patient and wait as
time for handover comes. They are ready to do so as they will handover
power when they lose elections or if the get to 75 years as per the
constitution of Uganda commands.
The bishops retire as per the order of the constitution of the
church of Uganda but as President Museveni he is still here as the
constitution of Uganda still favors him, he will leave power saying
that when occasion comes as when the constitution still doesn’t favor
them they will or if else.
“We are still here as when the occasion of living comes we shall leave
as even though you might be good time when you have to leave “.
Said General Kahinda.
He also said that he was dismayed by the people of Rujumbura for
voting out Rtd. Major General Jim Muhwezi by voting in Fred
Turyamuhweza of FDC saying that all the good things that muhwezi and
NRM had done for them was bad. even though Dr
Kizza Besigye is there son but they should remember the good things
that the NRM government and president Museveni has done for them as
the people of Rukungiri.
General Kahinda also warned that people of Rukungiri against engaging
in sectarian tendencies saying due to the sectarian tendencies that
why they went to the bush to fight bad governments that were at the
time promoting them as he asked the church leaders to separate
politics from God’s work.
Bishop Benon Tugume succeeded bishop tugume-tusingwire who has been at
the helm of the diocese for the last six years.
