MINISTER MARY KAROORO: MAINTAIN DEATH PENALTY TO CURB DEFILERS, MURDERERS

IN BUSHENYI—
The minister in charge of general duties in the office of prime minister who is also the women member of parliament of Bushenyi district Hon Mary Karooro Okurut has called on government not scrap death sentence in the penal code because defilers and murders are still many in the country.
Speaking at the women’s day celebration in Bushenyi over the weekend , Karooro said those who defile minors should be sentenced to death adding that what they could have done to innocent young children is equivalent to murder
She also cautioned parents on the dangers of torturing children adding that they will be arrested and taken to court citing the recent incident in Bumbaire where a middle aged man killed his son over a loaf of bread adding that such cases of crime paint a bad image to the district
The guest of honour Hon Ruth Nankabirwa who is the government chief whip cautioned married couples especially women to respect their husbands and submit to them.
She noted that women politicians should ensure that their husbands are respected. “it doesnot mean that when a woman is politician, she should disrespect her husband” She said.
