Harriet Businge Mugenyi the Hoima district Woman Member of Parliament has asked the government to consider giving local tailors at the district level so that they can ease the demand of re-usable face masks from the public.
She said this during the official flagging off the distribution of 305,000 government masks by the state minister for health in-charge of general duties Robinah Nabbanja in Hoima district.
This is in line with a commitment by President Yoweri Museveni to provide free reusable masks to all Ugandans aged six years and above, as a pre-condition for lifting COVID-19 restrictions.
According to the President, the distribution was planned to start from the border districts, which are more prone to the virus than the rest of the country.
The first beneficiaries are Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Religious heads including Hoima Catholic Diocesan bishop, Bunyoro Kitara Diocesan bishop, Hoima Muslim district kaadhi and District officials.
Nabbanja says that Hoima being a border district, the Ministry deemed it necessary to ensure that the distribution of masks starts as soon as possible as compared to other parts of the Country.
She said, whoever gets a mask will be required to put it on always whenever he/she is leaving home.
Bishop Vincent Kirabo Amooti of Hoima Catholic Diocese hailed the government for having fulfilled its pledge to distribute free face masks to all Ugandans.
