MINISTER NANKABIRWA VOWS TO STABILISE ELECTRICITY FOR RESIDENTS IN RUKIGA.

Residents in Rukiga district have attributed underdevelopment to high charges involved in Electricity power connections which has left out many families and trading centers not connected to UMEME Electricity power supply.
Kamushaba Jackeline, the councilor lc5, Muhanga Town council said that they have failed to develop because they have no electricity and that they always travel long distances looking for salons and power.
Some of the concerned residents added that the Rural Electrification agency has been charging over 700,000shs that is unaffordable for the majority yet the electric poles are in their compounds.
Ruth Nakabirwa , the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development while touring the area on 17th dec2022 pledged to send a team of surveyers from her ministry to access the agency of Electricity power connection.
She however said that she had worked out elecricity arrangement with the president of the republic of Uganda which will benefit those having electric poles near their homes.
Nakabirwa added that the arrangements require one to pay 200,000shs to access electricity and the president has given out a subsidy of 250,000shs which was required from the 720,000 and the balance of 270,000shs will be protected by Uganda Development Bank (UDB) where there will be no interest for a period of 8yrs.
However, The Rukiga District Woman MP Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi applauded the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development who pledged to have a solar to farmers in Kamwezi to preserve milk .
