The minister of internal affairs Kahinda Otafiire has revealed that the parish development model fund will save politicians from voters who beg from them during campaigns and after elections.
He said this yesterday during a sensitization meeting for local leaders held at Bushenyi multipurpose hall.
He noted that the parish development model fund will uplift the financial standards of the poor people in the parish who are always begging from MPs and other leaders during campaigns.
The meeting was attended by all MPs from greater Bushenyi and councilors plus chairpersons LCIII.
The statement by the general followed complaints from the leaders that they will not benefit from the program.
He noted that it will save them from voter beggars both during campaigns and after elections.
On the other hand, Kahinda warned leaders to make sure that they leave a legacy during their tenure of the leadership so that people can always remember that they were leaders at one point in time.
The minister of local government Raphael Magyezi advised leaders to work hard with their people to make sure that parish development model elevates poverty from the 39% households that live on subsistence farming.
The MP for Sheema municipality Dickson Kateshumbwa noted that parish development model should be termed as an immunization against poverty.
