Minister of Justice and Constitution affairs Kahinda Otafire has warned politicians against ganging up with religious leaders to promote sectarianism in order to gain political mileage.
He said divisions based on tribal and religious lines are very dangerous and that whoever is trying to practice should be isolated to avoid causing serious turmoil in the country.
Otafire further said that this is one of the reasons they went to the bush adding that those bent to reintroduce them shall politically harvest from it and the consequences may not be good.
Talking to Christians and religious leaders at Bikungu Church of Uganda in Mitara Mitoma district, Otafire reminded them of what happened in some countries surrounding Uganda where social issues of religious differences and ethnicity have not been addressed and urged them to completely distance themselves from sectarian tendencies as they concentrate on spiritual teachings to believers.
Similar concerns were expressed by Elioda Tumwesigye the minister of science, Technology and Innovations who appealed to all Ugandans to shun sectarianism saying Africans are common people with the same aspirations, heritage and a shared destiny and should fight hard along those lines rather than thinking of dividing themselves.
