A section of Mitooma town council councilors yesterday staged a protest against poor roads in the town council.
Led by their speaker Armstrong Freeman Muhanguzi, the councilors said that government released money to work on roads in the town council but up now no road has been graded making all roads impassable.
Mable Tukahirwa the town council secretary for works and roads said
that a sum of about 28 million shillings was received in August this year but up to now the councilors do not know the whereabouts of the money.
Elly Twinamatsiko, the councilor representing ward III said that the last
council resolved that the grading of roads starts immediately but the
technical officers have kept on dodging them.
When contacted the town clerk Mitooma town council Lawrence Mbabazi said that the councilor’s arguments are in bad faith because all monies sent by government are still intact in the council’s account only waiting for rains to reduce and they start grading the roads.
The mayor Mitooma town council Alfred Mugarura accused the councilors of playing monkey politics adding that no money was stolen by anybody.
He assured residents that all roads will be graded come next month.
