The managing director of an online news website for greater western Uganda www.mknewslink.com Mr. Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante was yesterday afternoon arrested and released on Police bond after the intervention of the AIGP Asan Kasingye.
He was arrested on allegations of publishing astory about a fracas by a Mitooma town clerk Lawrence Mbabazi that he allegedly caused at Caro Hotel in Ishaka Bushenyi District.
Kasibante a resident of Bushenyi town in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality was arrested by police officers led by district CID and taken to Mitooma police station where he was detained for almost 4 hours and later released after the intervention of members of Bushenyi Journalists and media association (BJOMA) led by Chris Mugasha together with Make Bushenyi Great Again (MBUGA) civilian general and plus Five Bushenyi Associatee members.
According to Mr Kasibante yesterday at around 1:00pm, the entire Mitooma Police officials both detectives and enforcements lead by the OCIID ASP Rwanyonga cealed off the office located next to Bushenyi Municipality and arrested him with.
He adds that the OCIID Mitooma team also confiscated two laptops, two modems and his personal mobile phone.
The greater Bushenyi Regional Police Commanders had hatched a plan for Kasibante to sleep in Mitooma Police cells but AIGP Asan Kasingye over turned their plan.
Kasibante is required to report back on Monday next week to renew his bond.
While speaking to outgoing RPC Greater Bushenyi Mr. Eddie Serunjogi, he ordered ASP Rwanyonga to immediately quicken investigations into the matter and hand over Kasibante’s computers, phone and other gadgets.
Meanwhile, the news editor Crane radio together with Komuhimbo Mary Akiiki, the Kanyonza morning show presenter have also been verbally summoned to report at Mitoma police station tomorrow to record statements for airing the same news article.
