MOB KILLS, BURNS 2 SIBLINGS OVER WITCHCRAFT ALLEGATIONS IN RUKUNGIRI

Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which two people were allegedly murdered on allegations of practising witchcraft.
The duo has been identified as Narisi Katarihwa Alias Monday 48 years and Annet Kemirembe 51 years both of Rwencwera cell Rushasha parish Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri district.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police mouthpiece, it is alleged that the two bewitched three people around 2020 and on the 24/03/2022, one of their alleged victim Valeriano Ndyanabangyi aged 63 yrs resident of Burera Village Nyakagyeme Sub county died from his home after a long time illness.
Maate told www.mknewslink.com that yesterday morning, relatives of the deceased gathered, killed and later burnt Katarihwa and Kemirembe who are siblings (brother and sister).
According to the area village chairperson Banard Tibebwa, the deceased were accused of involvement in witchcraft stressing that he has on several occasions been trying to solve their issues but all in vain.
The mob was ignited by the death of former Rukungiri woman MP Betty Muzanira’s Brother Ndyanabangyi Valeriano whom they suspect to have been bewitched by the duo.
By the time of the incident, burial arrangements of Valeriano Ndyanabangyi were going on but were brought to standstill following the disappearance of all residents who participated in the mob action.
Police visited the scene to draw a sketch plan and record statements before taking the two bodies to Rwakabengo Health Center for postmortem examination.
