In Hoima—
The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC leaders in Hoima have
failed to reach a Consensus on which candidate to front in the forthcoming Hoima district woman parliamentary elections.
Rehema Nabisere and Asinance Nyakato both FDC party cadres have shown interest to stand as flag bearer in the forthcoming election.
A consultative meeting convened on Thursday afternoon at the party headquarters at Duhaga Hoima municipality and the party leaders resolved to hold party primaries on Monday next week.
Jackson Wabyona Rugambwa, the Hoima district FDC party chairman who
chaired the meeting said both candidates are good but for the sake of democracy, they will conduct party primaries and whoever wins will be announced flag bearer.
He said the party is now registering and nominating candidates willing to stand.
Wabyona however blamed the district party secretary general Aziz Kalyegira for giving out misleading information that the party had endorsed Rehema Nabisere as the party flag bearer without consulting them.
Kalyegira on Tuesday announced Nabisere as the party flag bearer saying the constitution protects her. “Our party constitution is very clear that once you attain the flag, it remains running until after five years and in this case, Nabisere remains our candidate until 2023” he said
Nabisere and Kalyegira snubbed the meeting that was convened purposely to reconcile the two candidates. This prompted the members to resolve to conduct party primaries.
Wabyona said the power belong to the party delegates to make changes saying they will adhere to what has been resolved.
Nyakato however said she is willing to rally behind Nabisere once she loses the primaries.
When contacted, Kalyegira said whatever is being done is breach of party constitution.
