Justice Musa Ssekana has this morning dismissed the election petition filed by the former Masindi district Woman MP Jalia Bintu Lukumu against the Buruli Constituency MP Ronald Akugizibwe Aled at Masindi High Court.
Bintu ran to Masindi High Court challenging the victory of Akugizibwe in the Buruli Constituency 2021 parliamentary elections.
She alleged that Akugizibwe didn’t resign officially from civil service and was still on payroll. Akugizibwe was a teacher at Buddo SS before joining active politics.
According to the Buddo SS head teacher’s letter read by Justice Musa in the court, Akugizibwe officially resigned, and has not been doing any duty for the school or getting salary. Justice Musa therefore dismissed the case with costs.
Addressing journalists shortly after the court, Akugizibwe Ronald Aled pledged to continue serving the people of Buruli Constituency, and Uganda at large.
Council Robinson Wamani of Victoria Advocates representing Bintu Jalia Lukumu said they will sit with their client and sort out the issue of costs since court had ruled in the favor of their opponent.
“When one loses case, court decides whether to incur costs or not, and we still have time to sit with our client and sort it out,” he added.
