In Bushenyi—
Police in Bushenyi have in their custody a 77 year-old man who was arrested while soliciting signatures to recall MP Raphael Magyezi from parliament.
A group of voters in Igara West recently embarked on soliciting signatures to recall their MP from parliament for moving the bill that seeks to delete article 102b from the constitution in order to allow the president rule beyond 75 years of age.
Police has identified the suspect in detention as Pascal Mayanja; a resident of Kakira parish in Bitooma subcounty;Bushenyi district.
According to police, Mayanja who was caught red-handed collecting signatures will be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony which is punishable by laws.
One of Mayanja’s relatives who talked to www.mknewslink.com editor on anonymity said police wanted to release him on bond but the both offices of the District Internal Security Officer and Resident District Commissioner objected the move without a clear reason.
Efforts by www.mknewslink.com to get a comment from RDC Peter Mugisha were futile as he ignored our repeatedly phone calls.
Meanwhile police is stuck with criminal suspects in it’s custody due the ongoing sit down strike by State prosecutors.
Magistrates’ courts now handle only civil cases since the state prosecutors are not in court.
