The Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency Hon. Fred Tumuhirwe Turyamuhweza has on 18th March 2021, petitioned Kabale High Court seeking for the nullification of Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi Katugugu’s victory in January 14th election.
Turyamhweza of the Forum for Democratic Change FDC party polled 20,556 votes losing the race to Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi of the ruling National Resistance Movement NRM who polled 23,990 votes.
However, Turyamuhweza accuses his opponent of engaging in Voter bribery, intimidation, ballot stuffing asserting that many of his agents were dismissed from polling stations to facilitate rigging on the polling day.
According to him, all the actions contradicted provisions of the Parliamentary Elections Act, and denied him victory.
Through his Lawyers of Jude Byamukama advocates, Turyamuhweza wants the Court announce that the declaration of election results for Rujumbura County was not conducted in compliance with the law governing elections in Uganda which substantially affected the outcome.
The legislator adds that since he has filled his petition, he will wait for a ruling in the coming month of April adding that he will abide to its ruling.
