The parish Priest of Kitanga Parish in Kabale Diocese Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has challenged the First Son Lt. Gen. Muhozi Kainerugaba to explain why Katuna Border was closed before celebrating its re-opening.
Last weekend, Muhozi who is also the UPDF Commander of the Land forces threw mega 48th Birthday parties that attracted several dignitaries including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and highlighted the re-opening of Uganda’s border with Rwanda at Katuna in Kabale District as one of the reasons for such celebrations.
However, Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda said he was not convinced that the celebrations were genuine, since both the closure and reopening of the Katuna border were unclear.
He wondered why there was no written document available to the public as an assurance that Uganda and Rwanda had buried grievances that could have caused the closure of the border.
“Where is the written agreement between Muhozi and Kagame explaining why the border was closed, why it was reopened, and measures put in place to avoid future conflicts of that nature?” asked Fr. Gaetano.
He also said that the closure of Katuna border could have been a syndicated move by Ugandan President Museveni and Kagame to create a scenario where voters would believe that Muhozi is capable of mending relations between Uganda and Rwanda, and therefore accept him as the next president of Uganda.
“Muhoozi has been in the army and his personal life has been hidden from the public yet he could be harboring ambitions to stand for president in the near future.” said Fr. Gaetano.
In his Birthday speech Gen. Muhoozi also noted that the Majority of the Youths were unemployed and it was time for the Government to harness their skills by engaging them in sports and music, however this was also trashed by Fr. Gaetano who accused Muhozi of insensitivity about the real problems facing the youths.
