MUSEVENI’S VISIT TO KISORO WAS OUT OF BOBI WINE’S PRESSURE—FR. GAETANO

In Kisoro—-
The Chairperson of Kigezi Interreligious Council Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has said that President Museveni’s abrupt visit to Kisoro district was hypocritical and out of pressure from his NUP counterpart.
President Museveni early last month extended his vote hunt to Kigezi region and was supposed to meet all NRM Political leaders from Kabale district.
However, NRM leaders from Kisoro district didn’t show up for the meeting and requested President Museveni for a special visit to the district.
The leaders said they had a number of issues to address to the President which among others included the continued detention of their son, former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Keihura.
Campaigning in the same district the following week, NUP Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu said that President Museveni didn’t go to the district because he feared that residents would question him about Kayihura.
Kyagulanyi promised to release Kayihura if they voted for him on 14th this month. He also promised to construct John Kale Institute/ University which Museveni promised to establish in vain.
Kyagulanyi also promised to hold talks with the Rwandan President Paul Kagame so that Uganda Rwanda borders which have been closed since February last year, are reopened.
However, President Museveni yesterday specifically returned to Kigezi region for a rally in Kisoro District.
Speaking to residents, he promised to talk to Military Court Martial so that Gen Kayihura is set free.
His reply was after the Kisoro district leaders led by the District Chairperson Abel Bizimana and the district Woman MP Rose Kabagyenyi requested the President to release Keihura.
However addressing a press conference at Kitanga Catholic Parish in Rukiga District, Fr Gaetano said that the President’s visit was to only hoodwink voters in Kisoro district.
Fr. Gaetano said that the President’s visit was hypocritical and out of the pressure from the message of Kyagulanyi to residents which could have made him fear losing support from residents.
He asked voters in Kisoro District to only vote Museveni if he fulfills his pledges to Kisoro people especially setting Kayihura free and establishing Kale Institute.
