Workers of Masindi municipality are in fear for their lives following
the water crisis that has been brought about by disconnection from the
water supply.
On Thursday last week officials from National Water and Sewerage
Corporation disconnect Masindi municipal council offices from water supply due to un
cleared water bills
This left the municipality in a complicated position after paralyzing
the sanitation condition since most of its toilets are water bone
which needs ready water to clean them.
The situation was worsened by the constant usage of toilets by the
workers which made the toilets to be filled up with human waste and
the toilet papers something which has put their lives at risk of
contracting diseases.
www.mknewslink.com reporter also witnessed the Masindi municipal toilet filled up
with human waste and toilet papers something that has led to the
stinking of the toilets.
According to a worker who preferred anonymity said that the situation
is intolerable noting that it is over a week since they were
disconnected from the water supply and the concerned authorities are
not bothered.
She wondered as to why the authorities wait for the situation to run
out of hand and then they act instead of always acting in time
When contacted Businge Joab the mayor Masindi municipality for a
comment, he said that he learnt of the matter on today morning adding
that he was going to have meeting with the town clerk to see that the
problem is rectified in time.
Businge added that it is a health threat to the workers which must be
rectified immediately and wondered as to why the people responsible
with paying were not behaving responsibly.
Deo Ndimu, the town clerk Masindi municipality, said that he was not
aware of any disconnection and the toilets being filled saying that he
was going to direct the concerned to act immediately.
Alokit Racheal the area manager National water and sewerage
Corporation Masindi noted that they had cut them off the water supply
due to nonpayment but declined to explain the details about the
matter.
