NDA IMPOUNDS DRUGS WORTH 100 UGX , THREATENS TO CLOSE OVER 235 DRUG OUTLETS IN S.WESTERN UGANDA

National Drug Authority (NDA) has impounded 292 boxes of Assorted Drugs worth 100 million shillings, and arrested one drug hawker arrested in South West Region.
This was revealed by Samuel Kyomukama, the head of Enforcement at National Drug Authority as he addressed Journalists at the South West National Drug Authority Region office in Booma cell Mbarara city.
Kyomukama asserted that the operation which started on 26th.June, 2022 -to date was in line with the National Drug Authority routine post market surveillance activities and it was a follow up of the February this year’s, 22nd enforcement activity in the south west Region.
He added that during the enforcement operation held in 11 districts of Buhweju, Bushenyi,Ibanda, Isingiro,Kazo, Kiruhura, Ntungamo,Rubanda, Rukungiri , Mbarara Greater and Rwampara a total of 281 drug outlets were inspected which included one pharmacy,260 Human drug shops ,11 Vet Drug shops ,and 9 clinics.
Kyomukama further said from 281 drug outlets which were inspected a total of 239 drug outlets were issued with closure notices from which 292 boxes of assorted drugs estimated at ugx.100 million were impounded due to several non-compliance issues.
During the same operation, Kyomukama said one drug hawker was apprehended for illegal possession and sale of drugs, as well as impounding government drugs which were found at Good life medical clinic owned by a one Moyito Morris (still on run) in Kashenyi Go Down village in Rukungiri municipality.
The head of enforcement is now appealing to drug out let owners to keep up with standard by getting licences from National Drug Authority.
