NGOS, LOCAL GOV’T HUNT FOR OVER UGX 100 M TO EXPAND MATERNITY WARD AT MASINDI HOSPITAL

Masindi corporate league association has partnered with Recreation for Developmet and Peace (RDP) Uganda and Masindi district local government to solicit for 115 million Ugandan shillings aimed at expanding the Masindi hospital maternity ward.
According to Hassan Mugisa the chairperson Masindi corporate league association, the campaign codenamed Save mothers run was reached at after they saw news on one of the Ugandan television showing the sorry state of Masindi hospital.
He said that as corporates they have decided to support the community through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) adding that they are doing this to ensure that mothers lives are saved during pregnancy, labor, at birth and after birth.
Mugisa added that he wrote a letter to the Permanent secretary Ministry of health Diana Atwine who in turn gave them a go ahead.
He called upon all stakeholders in the district to come out and give the necessary support explaining that the matter is non political but for the benefit of the people of Masindi and Bunyoro at large.
Save mothers run is slated for 21st September 2019 and the guest of honor will be the commissioner maternal and children health Jesca Nsungwa and the converging point is Masindi BOOMA grounds.
Sister Janet Agaba, the in charge Masindi hospital maternity ward says the maternity ward is too small compared to the number of mothers handled.
Masindi hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Uganda, it was built in 1920s as a dispensary for Uganda railways and according to the hospital authorities it has 100 bed capacity but currently it has 300 beds.
