The diocese of Northwest Ankole Diocese Ibanda on Thursday donated 1000kgs of maize flour and five boxes of laundry soap to the Ibanda district Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) taskforce.
While handing over the donation, Bishop Amos Magyezi said the food relief was a response to calls by the national and district taskforces to Ugandans and organisations to put in their efforts in helping the needy as the country fights spread of Covid-19.
Bishop Magezi directed that the food be given to the vulnerable in society, as well as people who were caught up in the lockdown in Ibanda town, including students and other youths who lost jobs.
“As a church, we can’t just preach the gospel to the people without addressing their needs, noting that faith without actions is dead. Besides, you can’t preach to people who are hungry, they need food,” the Bishop noted
He lauded the taskforce for the good work it is doing, supporting residents in different ways.
Speaking at the event, RDC Eliasto Akatuheebwa noted that the soap donation was timely and in line with fighting Covid-19.
He said the task force would work with LCI chairmen in the municipality to distribute the maize flour to sections of town dwellers who were caught up by the lock down, including students of university and tertiary institutions and the needy in the community.
