National Resistance Movement on Wednesday 22nd August 2018 postponed Sheema north constituency primary by elections until further notice due to insufficient funds in the party’s treasury.
On 2nd August, the NRM electoral commission Mr Tanga Odoi scheduled that on Monday 27th August this year, there would be by elections in Sheema north. However they have changed due to failure of the party to raise the funds needed to run election process and activities.
“Due to inadequate funds, the commission announces that primaries in Sheema north constituency which were scheduled on Monday 27th August have been postponed until further notice” Tanga Odoi
Odoi said that the Party is well aware of the issue since the party electoral commission wrote to finance committee asking for money. He said that one billion shillings is needed to run election process such as printing ballot papers, paying workers, transport and others.
Odoi said that on Tuesday 28th August will visit Sheema north constituency purposely to meet five candidates who are competing for the flag and other NRM figures to see how the elections can be peacefully conducted when the date is set.
He added that even NRM primaries in newly created districts such as Bugweeri, Kasanda and others are also to wait patiently until the party raises the money needed.
