A serious rift has erupted in the National Resistance Movement the ruling party after section of members fronted Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye while others want former URA boss Dickson Kateshumbwa to take up Sheema municipality seat in 2021 general elections.
Kateshumbwa who served as commissioner in charge of customs at Uganda Revenue Authority for over 14 years recently retired from service to contest for Sheema Municipality parliamentary seat.
Insiders in NRM told www.mknewslink.com that when Kateshumbwa showed interest in grabbing the seat from Elioda, he was supported by a section of top NRM members.
“Kateshumbwa is the right person to lead Sheema municipality because he has everything at hand,” NRM members were quoted saying.
Sheema was declared municipality last year and Elioda abandoned his Sheema North constituency where he was MP and stood in the municipality but won with small margins.
He and other Members of Parliament representing new municipalities were taken to court and ordered out of parliament.
However, they appealed and retained their seats.
