The Bushenyi Ishaka municipality FDC MP Flag bearer Odo Tayebwa has reported a case at Bushenyi police of voter bribery by NRM flag bearer Derrick Kabuura Baimukye.
Odo was forced to the take the case to Bushenyi Police after Kabuura on 16th Oct.2020 gave money publically at a burial of one Mwebaze in Kashenyi ward Ishaka division.
It is alleged that Kabuura openly gave 100,000 to each child of the deceased and 50,000 to a voter who negotiated for a speech.
It is also alleged that Kabuura who had just been nominated on 16th Oct.2020 by the district registrar Godfrey Mbabazi rushed to the burial at the end of the speeches thus had to negotiate for a speech.
According to political parties and other organizations act of 2005, a nominated candidate is not allowed to give out money and other materials to the voters and whoever does so, it is proved, he or she is disqualified even if he or she has already won the election.
This means that when Odo proves at Police and in court that Kabuura gave money at the burial, he will be disqualified.
The police officer in charge of political desk Byaruhanga said that they are still investigating the matter adding that it is reported that the complaint also pledged but never paid.
Efforts to get Kabuura’s side of the story were futile since he did not pick his calls by www.mknewslink.com.
