NTUNGAMO CHAIRMAN LCI IN TROUBLE FOR OBSTRUCTING POLICE AS THEY IMPLEMENTED PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVES

Ntungamo Police have summoned the Nyakagando Village Chairperson Saturday Ernest Kamanda to answer to charges of obstructing police officers as they implemented the presidential directives to close bars, shops with non food items.
The summons dated 7th April 2020 wants Kamanda to report to the investigating office on Friday 10th April 2020 at 2:00pm to provide valuable information in the matter.
The Officer in Charge of Ruhaama Sub County Police station in Ntungamo District Charles Muhoozi on Monday opened a case of obstructing police officers on duty against the Nyakagando village chairperson Saturday Ernest Kamanda.
Muhoozi opens the case two days after the Nyakagando village chairperson Saturday Ernest Kamanda filed a case of assault against the police officer to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
It is alleged that Charles Muhoozi, the Officer in Charge of Ruhaama Sub County Police station assaulted Kamanda at Nyakagando trading center over the weekend.
Kamanda says Muhoozi and another police officer allegedly assaulted him after he asked them not to brutalize people in the trading center where he also owns some businesses.
Kamanda, says he on Monday registered a case to Nakalema’s Anti-corruption unit through a phone call and is waiting for their action on the police officer.
The Ntungamo Police Station, Crime Investigations officer, Godis Twinamastiko, confirms the police officer have opened the case.
Twinamastiko, says they are currently investigating two counter accusation cases after the police officer also opened a case against the chairperson.
He says the Chairperson is now charged with inciting the public and obstructing police officers on duty.
Twinamastiko says he is not aware if the chairperson has registered a case with State house Anti- corruption unit but he is aware he opened a case at the police station and the implicated persons have recorded statements.
Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner, George Bakunda says he was informed that the chairperson interfered the officers as they implemented the presidential directive of closing bars.
Kamanda says he had recorded statement at Ntungamo Police Station.
Samson Kasasira, Rwizi Region Police spokesperson says a case was entered into the criminal registry book under case number SD ref 34/3/4/2020.
Mariam Natasha, the spokesperson to State House Anti-Corruption Unit confirms to press that the chairperson opened a case with the Unit over the weekend.
