NTUNGAMO JOURNALIST ASSAULTED BY POLICE AS HE TOOK PHOTOS OF CURFEW DIRECTIVE

Police in Ntungamo district have severely assaulted a Nation Media Group Journalist as he tried to take pictures of police beating up business people in regard to curfew directives by president museveni
The journalist Perez Rumanzi was later rushed to Municipal Health Clinic for treatment after he sustained severe injuries after he was assaulted on evening of Wednesday along Kaguta road at 7:30pm.
Rumanzi who is Monitor Publication Limited correspondent in Ntungamo, Rukungiri and Kanungu districts, was hit with a baton and long sticks allover his body especially arms and legs .
According to Rumanzi,the security officers also confiscated his camera although he explained to them that he was trying to report how people in town were responding to the curfew.
He noted that he sustained non open wounds allover the body revealing that the arm , buttocks and legs are all swollen but vowed to keep executing his duties and other assignments.
It is alleged that the police and army from the 7th Battalion (now located at Irenga Ntungamo sub county near First lady’s home) forced the Rumanzi delete all the pictures on the camera which he objected and they started beating him on the back, the arms, the legs which forced him to succumb to beating and gave them the camera.
