In a shocking incident, the Ntungamo Territorial Police have launched a search for Moses Tushabe, a man in his 40s, who is accused of hacking Danson Kamugisha to death with a machete.
The incident took place in Rwemiriro Cell II, Kagango Ward, Rubaare Town Council in Ntungamo, and is believed to have been motivated by a love triangle.
The tragic events unfolded between the deceased, 50-year-old Kamugisha, and the suspect, both of whom claimed to be in a romantic relationship with Ms. Happy Agnes. Agnes, a casual laborer in Rubaare Town Council, was living in a rented house and was reportedly cohabiting with both men.
The chairman of Rwemiriro Cell II, Lauben Rwonkole, revealed that the two men had been at loggerheads over Agnes, who had been abandoned by her former husband, a police officer from Ruhaama.
The landlord of Ms. Agnes stated that he often saw her spending time with both Kamugisha and Tushabe, making it difficult for him to discern who among them was her husband.
Mandella Nicholas, the nephew of the deceased, recounted the tragic incident, stating that Kamugisha lost his life at around 7:45 pm on August 1, 2023. Tushabe allegedly attacked Kamugisha, repeatedly striking him on the head with the machete before slaughtering him mercilessly.
Both Kamugisha and Tushabe had reportedly abandoned their families in pursuit of their romantic interest in Agnes.
Despite efforts to obtain a comment from the officer in charge of Rubaare Police Station, ASP Ilim Muzoora, no response was received to multiple calls.
The community is left in shock and mourning as the search for the suspect continues. The police are urging anyone with information about Tushabe’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in bringing him to justice for this heinous crime.
