The Resident District Commissioner Ntungamo district George Bakunda has warned health workers to desist from absenteeism.
The RDC threatened to order the service commission to fire whoever is not found on duty during working hours.
Mr. Bakunda said this in a meeting of sub county chiefs, parish chiefs and Village health Teams aimed at improving service delivery in the health centers.
“I have a list of health workers who have not been reporting at the facility for over six months and have been receiving their salaries on their account. Surprisingly they are the first people to check on their accounts and the first complainants when salaries delay,” RDC Bakunda lamented.
He noted that since he has all the names of health workers who have not been present at their places of work, he will warn them and if they don’t change, they will face it rough.
The District Health Officer Richard Bakamuturaki in the same meeting explained that such in disciplined staff have demoralized other workers in different facility stations.
Bakamuturaki lamented that health workers cry for jobs but after getting them, they start misusing the opportunities and looking at the salary as a meager token.
