Women under the Kagamba women organization in Kagamba parish, Ntungamo municipality yesterday went through training on how to use small plots of land to earn much through back yard farming.
In a training that was facilitated by Robert Kabatereine the chairman Mbarara Farmers of Voice Network, he assured them that through back yard farming, women can earn much through using sacks of soil to plant in crops like tomatoes.
Kabatereine further called upon the women to organize themselves in groups in order to benefit from government programs like Parish development model of which the government is yet to disperse funds to the districts.
Christine Turyamuzaara the lady councilor for Nyarushenyi subcounty in Ntungamo district who was also among the trainees cited a challenge of changing weather and crop diseases.
She said that there is also a problem of unstable markets of products like bananas which have lost value.
Turyamuzaara further urged women to form groups which will help them get daily income instead of keeping their eyes on their men.
