NURSE ARRESTED FOR SELLING GOVERNMENT DRUGS

Police in Masindi have arrested a nurse at Masindi Main Hospital for soliciting money from a patient.
Christine Akugizibwe a nurse in Masindi hospital children’s ward was arrested during the weekend for allegedly asking money worth 22000 shillings from a patient before being worked on.
Trouble for Akugizibwe started when she allegedly demanded for money from one Phiona Kimuli a resident of Nyangahya cell Masindi municipality who was attending to her 6year old boy.
Kimuli told reporters and security officers that when she reached in the children’s ward with her anemic child, the troubled Nurse asked her for a bribe of 22000 shillings before she would work on her son.
Kimuli said that she did not raise the whole amount but was able to pay 16000 shillings and promised to pay the nurse a balance of 6000 shillings later.
She added that Akugizibwe refused to treat the child unless the balance is cleared until she convinced the nurse to treat the boy and that she would pay the balance in three hours’ time which she obliged.
Kimuli explained that she reported the matter to the RDC who advised her to photo copy the money she would pay to the nurse which she did.
Kimuli said that she brought the balance and found Akugibwe in the ward herself and the money was paid to her.
Immediately Akugizibwe received the balance of 6000 shillings the detectives sent by the RDC surrounded her.
When interrogated Akugizibwe admitted to have sold the drugs to the patient and asked to be forgiven saying she was a first time offender.
While addressing journalists in his office today, the Masindi RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma confirmed the arrest of Akugizibwe from Masind hospital for asking money from the patient.
He added that they have been getting information that doctors and nurses ask for money from patients but today it came to pass.
The RDC condemned the acts saying that Akugizibwe is going to be prosecuted for other people to learn from her.
When contacted the Hospital Administrator Simon Baguma confirmed the arrest of her nurse but could not divulge much saying by the time of the arrest he was out of the hospital.
