Nyabushozi county in Kiruhura district will return to polls on wed, Oct,2020 with 84 villages participating in the fresh NRM parliamentary primary elections not tomorrow Tues. 13th Oct,2020 as earlier scheduled.
While postponing the elections at party headquarters in Kampala, the NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi advised candidates not to just pull out of the exercise without writing to the commission.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa who doubles as the NRM party National chairman on Thursday Oct,8,2020 ordered for fresh elections in 84 villages of Nyabushozi that were marred with violence among other irregularities.
This was during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held at state house Entebbe following the public outcry as the loser Wilson Kajwengye accused the incumbent MP Col. Fred Mwesigye of having a hand in the irregularities
Mwesigye had been declared a winner with 54,996 votes yet the total vote count for the district woman MP held on the same day was 41,629 votes which caused numerous questions.
Several CEC members said that the committee determined that fresh elections would clear out doubts about the exercise.
The National party chairman had guided that fresh primaries be conducted in 28 villages but they didn’t happen after Kajwengye boycotted the elections on Oct,6th,2020 while another candidate Christopher Bakashaba had lost interest in the exercise.
