ONE PERSON KILLED; MOTORCYCLE, VEHICLE BURNT IN MBARARA TIMBER FIRE

One person has been reported dead in the fire that burnt timber workshops in Mbarara yesterday morning.
Sam Sonko aged around 18 years a casual worker at the workshops located on Mbaguta Street was burnt beyond recognition.
According to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, Preliminary police investigations indicate that on 25th October 2021 at around 3:28am, Gilbert Awuyo a private guard attached to grade one security services Ltd was patrolling the lower Bus park gate and he saw a lot of smoke from the timber workshops.
He immediately reported the incident to Mbarara Bus park police post and Rwizi Regional fire team rushed to the scene but failed to contain the fire.
They called for re-enforcement from Bushenyi fire station, Ministry of works and other private fire personnel who responded immediately to put the fire out.
Kasasira told journalists that it was later established that 23 timber workshops, one Motor cycle and a motor vehicle registration UAQ 002J Harrier were all burnt to ashes.
The Rwizi region police spokesperson noted the cause of fire is yet to be established .
