ONE SHOT AND INJURED IN RUKUNGIRI

Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances surrounding the unlawful wounding by shooting of a 29 years old Rogers Tumwesigye a mason and resident of Kanyabihara village Masya parish Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri district.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Region police spokesperson told journalists that on the 14/01/2023 at around 00:30am at Nyakibale SACCO Kasoroza Branch at Kasoroza Trading Centre Nyakagyeme Sub county, an unknown group of people about 08 in number attempted to attack the SACCO by throwing stones at the night guards identified as Alex Kyarimpa and Kule Benson attached to Security 2000 Ltd.
Maate said that Alex Kyarimpa a security guard who was armed with rifle, cocked his rifle prompting the group to run away.
It’s further alleged that, later another group of 04 came and Kyarimpa acted as before making them to also scatter.
ASP Maate narrated that Moments later, a single person armed with a hammer and carrying a bag on his back approached the SACCO office by advancing towards the armed guard Kyarimpa, who responded by cautioning the attacker to stop and when he continued advancing towards him, he shot him disabling his left leg.
Police at Nyakagyeme responded to the scene, rushed the victim to Rwamahwa health centre lV for medication, recovered the gun and are holding the guard for questioning.
The victim claims he was going for work at a nearby building site.
The crime scene was re-examined by the police from the district headquarters and inquiries are ongoing to establish the truth of the matter
The Police Spokesperson notes that cases of unlawful wounding were registered at Rukungiri central police station under reference number CRB 72/2023.
