OPERATIONS AGAINST NON-COMPLIANT REFUGEES IN KISORO TO BE EXPANDED

The Operation to remove DR Congo refugees from communities is to be extended to other areas of Kisoro including Kisoro municipality. This was revealed by Kisoro RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi.
RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi says security officers carried out an operation in areas of Bunagana market, Maziba, Muramba and Mubuga trading center and evicted a yet to be known known number of refugees who had rented houses. He said the operation will continue and soon be extended in other areas of the district including Kisoro municipality.
According to RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi a total of 20,919 refuges have been removed from communities ever since the operation begun. Out of 20,919 refuges evicted, 14,870 crossed back to their home country while over 6,000 reported to Nyakabande Transit center. This excludes the number of refugees evicted in operation of today.
RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi also noted that security officers will start arresting residents hosting refugees and asked LC one chairpersons to cooperate with security in this operation. He also revealed that three refugees who were arrested while trying to pelt stones at security officers during the operation yesterday were arraigned before the courts of law and were remanded at Kisoro government prison. RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi asked refugees who wish to stay out transit camp to make applications using right channels. He however revealed that once a refugee applies to stay in rented places, he or she should live 50 kilometers from the war zone.
