OPINION: BOBI WINE MUST HAVE UNDERESTIMATED MUSEVENI’S POWER
By Kasami Rogers Mike
In Kyenjojo—-
Bobi Wine must have under estimated the might of the NRA without fully digesting its potential hence the failed Presidential project.
In the 70s, Obote wanted to dissolve Museveni’s fighting group FRONASA into the UNLA to form one fighting group to oust Amin with the help of the Tanzanians. Museveni refused and insisted on having a separate fighting group. He knew the value if being in judge of an army.
In the 80s, Museveni’s rebel group merged with Yusuf Lule’s group coming up with the NRA with Lule as its chairman and Museveni the vice who was also the leader of the armed wing. This was clear that Museveni was in control of the Army and if Lule had not died so early before the NRA captured power, it was so easy for Museveni to overthrow him. This is the same technic Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame used. After the genocide, he was the Vice president at the same time the commander of the army. Pasteur Bizimungu’s days were numbered and he was later overthrown and taken to prison.
Back here, this means that Kyagulanyi was making a grave mistake to think he could go occupy the position of the president without having any influence in the army. He was going to suffer the same fate of Binaisa and Yusuf Lule had he been declared winner of the presidential polls. It would be so easy even for a General like David Muhoozi to overthrow him.
Elections here are not held to bring about regime change but to legitimize the NRA stay in power. Kyagulanyi was never going to command an army he never built or did not have any historical attachment with. He was day dreaming. He later opted for the streets but his supporters have disappointed him. The November incident scared them, they realized the NRA was shooting on sight. (Bakambwe).
The efforts were used wrongly, had the November incident happened after the elections, the results would have been different for NUP perhaps you would be rejoicing now.
As Uganda we don’t need any more elections not until we have a dialogue as a country or else we wait for Museveni to burn down his candle and later we sort ourselves out.
