OPINION: HON. MUSASIZI’S CHANCES TO WIN 2021 ELECTIONS LOWER

Hon. Musasizi is likely to face the same fate as his predecessor Perez Ahabwe the former state Minister for Local government as his chances of winning 2021elections have lowered.
Since defeating Pereza Ahabwe in 2011, Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi has always kept his seat very easily. But latest developments show that the honey moon is over and that 2021 is going to be totally a different game for the legislator.
Musasizi is facing one strong challenger whose political strength might isn’t similar to any other that he has ever encountered before.
Hon. Henry Musasizi Ariganyira will battle with the current Rubanda district LC5 chairman Hon. Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema for the Rubanda East Parliamentary seat in a very tight race.
Being district chairman has given Kenneth Jogo an opportunity and more time with the voters, a thing that has made Musasizi sleepless and having to frequent the constituency like never before.
More to that, the two have on several occasions exchanged accusations. A few examples will truly explain the confrontational moments that the two have been having.
A few months ago, the two clashed at a fundraising function at Kibuzigye Secondary school located in Bubare Sub County where the district chairman Biryabarema comes from.
It all started when Hon. Musasizi who was the guest of honor ordered the master of ceremonies to deny Birayabarema a platform.
Biryabarema however insisted and advised the legislator to always respect protocol saying that as a duly elected leader, he had the mandate to speak and protocol allowed him to invite the guest of honor who happened to be Musasizi
To voters this was clear indication of how deeply the rift has grown. Then came the issue of a Seed Secondary and the two political leaders bickered about the place where this school should be located Rubanda district council under Jogo’s leadership elected to have the school at Nyarweru, a location which earned Biryabarema massive support in Nyamweru Sub County and Rubanda East in particular.
In addition there is a yet another candidate for the Rubanda East parliamentary seat Hon. Achiles
Byaruhanga despite not being much popular like the two but has made things much more complicated for Musasizi for a number of reasons including the fact that he is a fellow Catholic.
Religion plays a big role in elections in Rubanda’s Election. Byaruhanga is also an ex-Seminarian who also chairs St. Paul Seminary Alumni Association to which Musasizi belongs.
Most Residents in Rubanda district accuse Musasizi for supporting the scrapping off of age limit in the constitution, supporting the introduction of OTT and mobile money taxes and more to that for supporting the move by MP’s to exempt themselves from paying taxes.
