OPINION: PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS FEEL THE WRATH OF COVID 19 AS THEY LAST RECEIVED SALARIES IN NOVEMBER
In Bushenyi—
COVID 19 has virtually affected all sectors of life in Uganda and the most affected sector has been education and particularly private schools.
At the inception of the national lock down on 20th March 2020, schools were the first category institutions that were closed with immediate effect and that came mid-way of the 1st term.
Private Schools by nature of their operations purely survive by school fees yet by lock down announcement majority had not yet collected fees fully.
The fact that they (school owners) had not collected fees, the most affected in this were teacher some of whom last received salaries in November last year.
In this regard, the concerned authorities should intervene and help Bushenyi private teachers in these trying moments.
Remember, these educators pass through hard times even when the situations are normal, how about abnormal situations like this? Private teachers are people who are paid between 6 to 9 months a year; now that the schools are closed, guess what they are passing through.
Some of them are stuck in their schools not because they don’t want to go home but they don’t even have transport to take them back.
