Yes, West Ankole Diocese has in the past years suffered conflicts fueled by some prominent leaders with their selfish interests, causing the district to become a hotbed of Church and religious conflicts. I hope you remember when they rallied unsuspecting Christians to lock the Bishop outside Church.
They are at it again. When West Ankole Diocese got thrown into a furnace of conflicts, people prayed and fasted, calling for God’s intervention. God sent Bishop Twinomujuni as new Bishop. Since last year, the diocese has experienced a moment of peace and stability until recently when the leaders who had used church conflict to ascend to power lost popularity and thought of fighting the Bishop as if fighting in Church is their pie.
As we speak now, the Sheema LC5 Chairman, Mr. David Kabigumira is mobilising Christians to defy and fight against Bishop Twinomujuni and his administration. He accuses the Bishop of signing a tenancy agreement with Makerere University following its resolution to establish a study center at Katungu Mother’s Union Center where the diocese has giant buildings. He has also rallied the Christians in their respective Churches telling them to withhold the diocesan quota and refuse to remit collections to the diocese. He sometime back did the same thing; along the diocese lost about 2billion.
This is unfair especially at a time when peace has returned to the diocese and everyone is thanking God for what is happening in West Ankole Diocese.
With strongest terms, we condemn the actions of Mr. Kabigumira and his group. They are fuelling a fresh conflict against the Bishop while they are actually pushing for their selfish interests after becoming unpopular. They actually need to repent and do what pleases God, not their selfish interests.
Fighting against a newly consecrated Bishop is mayhem. He is showing the world that he is unrepentant, unpatriotic, and self-centered as a leader. Why would a leader lose senses to an extent of becoming a conflict monger? Why fight in church? Has he forgotten that he will at the end give accountability before God?
We request the office of the president, and police to step in and protect West Ankole Diocese from such bad elements because they are destabilising the diocese again.
With God’s guidance, Bishop Twinomujuni has brought a new era in West Ankole Diocese, thus changing the narrative and bringing many to God, but its unfortunate that Kabigumira and his group are up against him. Something needs to be done.
